The statistics:
More than 35 million people, including more than 12 million children, live in households that experience hunger or are at risk of hunger. This represents 1 in 10 households in the United States.
1.3 million New Yorkers (one in six) live in food-insecure households. 417,000 of them are children.
Research shows that preschool and school-aged children who experience severe hunger have higher levels of chronic illness, anxiety and depression, and behavior problems than children with no hunger.
Research shows that 40% of homeless men have served in the armed forces, as compared to 34% of the general adult male population. The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans estimates that on any given night, 271,000 veterans are homeless.
Declining wages have put housing out of reach for many workers: in every state, more than the minimum wage is required to afford a one- or two-bedroom apartment.
Battered women who live in poverty are often forced to choose between abusive relationships and homelessness. In a study of 777 homeless parents in ten U.S. cities, 22% said they had left their last place of residence because of domestic violence.

Stone Roses to Reunite in 2009
Well, it’s rumored that bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield has convinced the Stone Roses to reunite! Singer Ian Brown is the last hold-up, and he's just announced a solo album set for this summer. Either he'll be real busy or there will be some disappointed Roses fans.
