Forty songs entered... Only one survived...

We put rocks biggest songs head-to-head and your votes crowned Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit as the Ultimate K-Rock Anthem.

After two weeks of knock-down, drag out, bare-knuckle brawls, that produced some long winning streaks, only one song emerged wearing the belt, as the reigning Ultimate K-Rock Anthem

Got a problem with that? Don’t blame us. Keep your texting fingers ready and let your votes do the talking when our champion defends the belt next summer.

And coming soon - Metallica takes on all comers, and goes for two-in-a-row in March Bracket Brawl…

What Is An Anthem?

A Rock Anthem is a big-ass song that seems written for football stadiums (even when you are watching it performed in a small club). It has nothing in common with a “national anthem,” but it still might make you want to wave a flag (and if you are Bono, you might actually grab an actual flag and wave it onstage). It has big hooks, and big guitar parts that soar, and probably – at some point – lyrics that go “oh-way-oh” (so the folks in the top row can sing along).

To make sure the competition is wide open, we instituted a “one-song-per-band” rule. Think about it: for a song to be the ultimate anthem of all-time, it has to be the ultimate rock anthem by a particular band.

How We Broke It Down To 40 Anthems

Sometimes a band’s biggest rock anthem is obvious. G N’ R? “Sweet Child O’ Mine.” Nirvana? “Smells Like Teen Spirit.” Pearl Jam? “Alive.” Ozzy? “Crazy Train.” Pink Floyd? “Another Brick In The Wall.” Van Halen? “Runnin’ With The Devil.” There were 26 "Locks".

Sometimes, it gets a little tricky to pick just one song from one band... So we enlisted your help. We wanted your input to help figure out the ultimate K-Rock anthem, from some of the biggest K-Rock bands. Here's how you voted:
  • Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
  • The Police - Roxanne
  • U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
  • Metallica - Enter Sandman
  • Led Zeppelin - Stairway To Heaven
  • AC / DC - Highway To Hell
We had room for 8 more anthems on the list, but had 20 to choose from... That's where you helped us out again. Here are the tracks you picked:
  • We Will Rock You / We Are The Champions - Queen
  • What I Got - Sublime
  • Rock N Roll All Night - KISS
  • Head Like A Hole - Nine Inch Nails
  • Mr. Brightside - The Killers
  • Hashpipe - Weezer
  • Creep - Radiohead
  • Break On Through - The Door
