You may be saying, “Surely you jest!”
But it’s no joke and don’t call me Shirley.
There seem to be nine mastered and nearly finished tracks possibly from Guns N’ Roses’ elusive Chinese Democracy album making the rounds on the interwebs this week.
The website Antiquiet.com was allegedly responsible for the leak, which prompted an immediate cease-and-desist order from the band, but not before some songs made their way to the YouTubes.
Six tunes had previously been leaked but the latest versions of them show that they are much further along and just about finished. Those tunes are “Better”, “The Blues”, “Chinese Democracy”, “Madagascar”, “IRS”, and “There Was a Time”.
Additionally, three songs that had never been heard before were also posted. One is an untitled track with Axl singing backed by a piano, another is called “If the World” and includes some Spanish flamenco guitar and the third, which has already been played live by GN’R a few years back, is called “Rhiad and the Bedouins”.
UPDATE: Most of the "videos" have been removed.
The general consensus around the K-Rock office is that the song "Better" is fantastic. Except for Schwenker. He thinks it's boring and Axl's voice sounds old. But what does he know? Look at that head of his.
"Better"
Could the album actually be worth the 14 year wait? Well, no, nothing is worth waiting 14 friggin’ years for but whatever, this is gonna rock!
FBI Question GN’R Song Leaker
This week, the FBI had a chat with the person who leaked those Guns N’ Roses songs which are allegedly from the group’s long-awaited Chinese Democracy album. The culprit is Kevin Skwerl, who runs the blog Antiquiet, and he claims he received the tracks from an anonymous source online. Skwerl revealed to Rolling Stone that two agents showed up at his office and questioned him about where he got the tracks.
The FBI wanted to see the original files, but the blogger asserted he deleted them after hearing from Axl Rose’s attorneys. As for the consequences of his actions, Skwerl, who isn’t sure if he broke the law or not, said, “If legal proceedings come my way, I’ll face them 100 percent. I’m not afraid of that. I did what I did and I’ll face the music if I have to.”

Stone Roses to Reunite in 2009
Well, it’s rumored that bassist Gary “Mani” Mounfield has convinced the Stone Roses to reunite! Singer Ian Brown is the last hold-up, and he's just announced a solo album set for this summer. Either he'll be real busy or there will be some disappointed Roses fans.
