Greatest Singers EVAR!
|
Rolling Stone has created a list of the 100 greatest singers of all time and almost as interesting as the list itself is who wrote the profiles for each artist.
The magazine put Aretha Franklin in the number-one spot with Ray Charles, Elvis Presley and Sam Cooke as numbers two through four. The Charles, Presley and Cooke articles were written by Billy Joel, Robert Plant and Van Morrison, respectively.
Number-five greatest singer John Lennon was profiled by Jackson Browne; Bono wrote about number seven, Bob Dylan; and Iggy Pop was the scribe behind the article on Rolling Stone’s 10th-greatest singer, James Brown.
Others on the chart include Paul McCartney at 11, Roy Orbison at 13, Robert Plant at 15, Mick Jagger at 16 and Freddie Mercury at 18.
To see the entire list, hand scribbled ballots from rock stars and to read what the article-writing musicians had to say, head to RollingStone.com.
• Billie Joe On Bono's Voice
Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong discusses why the Irish singer is one of the best, describing Bono’s voice as “50 percent Guinness, 10 percent cigarettes – and the rest is religion”.
You can also hear what Armstrong has chosen as Bono’s “key tracks,” including “One”, “With Or Without You”, “Where the Streets Have No Name” and more over on RollingStone.com.
